Minion: Type Specimen

Type Specimen projects are created to help designers choose a typeface for their design jobs. They aim to display the typeface in a variety of settings, examine the weights and variations, and speak to the usage of the typeface. This type specimen project is an examination of Minion, an old-style serif typeface designed by Robert Slimbach for Adobe Originals in 1992. The goal of this project was to develop a booklet, poster, and animation piece to educate designers on the potential of this famous typeface and demonstrate its utilitarian and clean personality.

The Concept

The Minion typeface is predominately used in the publication world for books and several universities use Minion as their primary typeface. These usages solidify it as a sophisticated, objectively useful typeface common in the intellectual realm. I wanted to maintain this sophisticated, simple aesthetic and showcase it through the booklet, the poster, and the motion piece.
